This specific molecular size is critical for efficacy. Smaller molecules (under 1000 Daltons) would fail their task - they would escape through the dermis via lymph without a visible effect. Larger molecules (above 5000 Daltons) would not penetrate deeply enough into the epidermis. 2000-2500 Daltons is the optimal range where collagen can distribute across the skin and be absorbed at dermal depth for a lasting result.
